Oh, Thank you!!

New Sloan album this spring, apparently.
I can sooooo handle that. In fact, I think I need it.
(Not that the previous one with 30 tracks was anything to sneeze at or anything...but I think it made me want MORE.)

17 degrees of Jackson Pollock??

"Ancient Greek sculpture influenced ancient Roman sculpture which influenced Cimabue who inspired Giotto who influenced Masaccio who influenced Raphael who inspired Annibale Carracci who taught Domenichino who worked alongside Poussin who influenced David who inspired Manet who was beloved of Degas who influenced Monet who inspired Mondrian who inspired Malevich who worked with Kandinsky who led to Jackson-goddamned-Pollock, thank you very much! Polydorus to Pollock in seventeen easy lessons!"
The students broke out into smiles and applauded.
"Thank you, thank you. I'll be here until Thursday. Try the meatloaf...Give me any two artists, and I can trace the trail of influence between them...."

This is an excerpt from The Art Thief, a new mystery by Noah Charney, a 27(ish)-yr old art historian. The guy's got degrees from the Courtauld Institute of Art and Cambridge, and he's the founding director of the Association for Research into Crimes against Art. I think that's pretty impressive, and the book (so far is GREAT.)

If you're at all into art history....if The DaVinci Code piqued your interest in art...give this a gander...you WILL learn something.

I'm just putting this out there....

I'm watching the Grammys right now, and I just want to say that I hope I'll look as good as Tina Turner does at 68. I'm totally impressed.

I hate it when the end of a vacation comes....

And it's time to print out your boarding pass for your trip home....so every second from now on HAS to count. It's not like I'm going to win a Nobel Prize for my beach-sitting abilities, but you never know....

When I rule the world - it'll happen. Beach-sitting *and* nap-taking. Two very overlooked qualities. If more people did it, people all over would be happier, and dare I say it??? Less war. People would be far less cranky.

I'm sure I'll think of more Nobel Prize categories....and I'll share.....

Book review: The Official Nancy Drew Handbook

I may have to check this out before convertible season starts - I need to find out how to keep my hair looking great while the top's down.

I loved Nancy Drew when I was little. I know I'm not the only one.....

For this, I will make an exception....

....I have a rule about modern music in period films. I hate it when they do that. They did it in "A Knight's Tale" and "Moulin Rouge" and now in "Marie Antoinette."

However, for this one scene, I will set aside my feelings. It fits. Perfectly. (Including the purple chucks.)
